Last weekend Nigerian producer and singer Odunsi (The Engine) released his new single Tipsy featuring English singer RAYE. Tipsy is a departure from Odunsi’s usual sound and brings fresh new energy to his discography. The song takes influence from American R&B artists like Tory Lanez and Bryson Tiller, while still sticking to his Nigerian roots with typical afrobeats rhythms.
Odunsi made waves towards the end of this last year with the release of his debut album Rare, a project that showed off both his renowned production skills and cutting edge vision for what Nigerian music can look like. The album came complete with dance tracks with afrobeats legends like Davido, alternative songs featuring indie artists like Duendita, and even a spoken word tribute to Lagos and it’s nightlife. Outside of his own work Odunsi has made a point to collaborate with other up and coming West African artists like Showdem Camp, Santi, Amaarae and others.
Odunsi started his career as a producer and became a performer because of his desire to execute his vision as a producer the way he wanted. He released his first track as Odunsi (The Engine) in 2016 and has been pushing the boundaries with his work ever since.
Odunsi (The Engine) is our man crush this week because of his ever changing style and sound. Odunsi’s music and production skills know no limitations and set him apart as a major player in the Nigerian music scene.
