Davido, who is currently on tour in the US, found some time to stop by Power 105.1 FM for an interview with DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God on The Breakfast Club.
During the conversation, the Nigerian Superstar, who is sometimes called The King Of Afrobeat gave insight into how he was treated and instructed as a child, his career, and what we should all watch out for in the next weeks.
The 30 Billion Artist revealed that he could not help falling in love with Afrobeat, even if he was born in Atlanta, and used to mostly listen to “American music”. His $700 M father initially did not support his ambitions as he wanted him to stay in America and focus on his studies. But Davido’s love for Afrobeat had grown so big that he made it back to Nigeria without his father’s knowledge. In 2012, Dami Duro was released with a clear message to his dad and those who hated him because he was from a rich family: “You can’t stop me”.
” I remember my first endorsement…It was like a $100 K, and I was like 17″
The singer signed to Sony Music Entertainment in 2016, but this whole adventure which was confusing to him slowed him down for sometime. He later decided to come back home, where he worked with local producers, to come out with atomic records like if and FIA. This was where the Davido every one in Africa and beyond knew, was back again!
Today, his father supports him and many others have stopped judging him because of the type of the family in which he was born. He has also become an “example to so many rich kids” who want to do music, as his notes continue to inspire millions of people.
Davido who will be at THE FILLMORE SILVER SPRING tomorrow, also revealed that he has an album coming out soon.
